Joseph in Prison

What do we do when life pushes us down, when the people closest to us betray us, or when circumstances seem to work against everything we hoped for? The story of Joseph in Genesis offers a stunning answer. Sold into slavery by his own brothers, falsely accused, and forgotten in prison, Joseph experienced wave after wave of human unfaithfulness. Yet woven through every low point is a remarkable refrain: God was with Joseph. This message invites us to wrestle honestly with suffering as a real and unavoidable part of life, while at the same time opening our eyes to the truth that God's presence does not depend on our circumstances. From the pit to the palace, God was not absent. God was not silent. God was working. The story of Joseph challenges us to ask whether we can trust that same presence in our own valleys, and whether we might one day look back, as Joseph did, and recognize that what others intended for harm, God was quietly turning toward good.
