A Good Ancestor

What does it mean to be called by God when the destination is unknown and the outcome is uncertain? Genesis 12 gives us one of the most pivotal moments in all of Scripture, a text scholars have called a fulcrum for the entire biblical story. Here, we encounter Abram, an ordinary person among millions, who receives an extraordinary call. God does not accept resumes, and Abram does not audition for the role. He is simply called. And that call is breathtaking in its openness: leave everything behind and go to a land I will show you. No map. No timeline. No guarantee of arrival. What we discover in this story is that faith is not about having all the answers before we take the first step. It is about trusting God further than we can see. The call of Abram becomes a mirror for our own lives, reminding us that God is still calling ordinary people into something far greater than themselves. As we reflect on what it means to answer that call, we are invited to consider where God might be leading us, even when the path ahead is not fully visible.
